Astronomy is an ancient science. Many scientists believe that the ancients used the sky patterns as guides to get around the world. According to numerous sources, there are a few species of animals that also rely on the sky to migrate.
Though astronomy has been around for years, the Arabs named many of the stars. This is because during the renaissance, astronomy thrived in the Muslim world. Another reason is because in the Quran, God mentions that He made the stars as navigation for humans. In surah 6 verse 97 God says, “And it is He who placed for you the stars that you may be guided by them through the darknesses of the land and sea. We have detailed the signs for a people who know.” As seen in this verse, Allah made the stars for navigation in both sea and on land. During the renaissance, the stars were used for navigation in both the ways mentioned.
In conclusion, once again the miracle of the Quran is proven. Allah (swt) has shown humans a use of the enormous stars in the universe. He has shown us the meaning of the verse in which He says that He has not created anything in vain.
